Wasps, Hornets and Yellow Jackets
PEST CONTROL

New wasp colonies must be found each year. Queens are inactive during the winter, hiding in protected areas under tree bark or in stone walls, leaf clutter or attics. If the queen lives through the winter, (many do not), she will build a small new nest and lay eggs, beginning the life cycle again in the spring.

Paper Wasp:

These wasps build relatively simple nests, compared to other yellow jackets and bald faced hornets, normally consisting of one tier, or layer of cells, these cells open downward and are not covered. Nests are usually suspended beneath a horizontal surface. These nests are normally small and rarely support more than a couple hundred workers.

Hornets:

The most fear-provoking social wasps around our area are hornets. The nests are large, grayish brown structures often seen hanging from a tree or bush or built under the soffit of a home. The two hornets that build these nests in our are the yellow jacket and the Baldfaced hornet.

There are several places where we find “yellow jackets” nest sights. These locations are underground, in wall voids or in paper nests. All nests are built by different variations of yellow jackets.

If you find a nest in the spring do NOT attempt to remove it during the day. If you want to remove it yourself, wait until 10pm or so when the hornets have slowed down. If you would rather have us remove it, please feel free to reach out to us we can handle these pests for you!
